What the name means

Acta Diurna is Latin for “daily acts” or “daily records.” It was the official gazette of ancient Rome: public notices of government business and events, written up and posted every day where anyone could read them.

We borrow the idea. Our boards show what official bodies have published, with the figure, its source and its date, and keep it on screen around the clock.

How the boards work

Official sources onlyEvery number is fetched from a named official source. None is typed in by hand, and tracker sites and rumours are not used.
Every figure is datedEach figure carries its own date. If an agency has not published a newer number, the board keeps its last official count and says when it was.
Estimates say soWhere no agency publishes a live total, the board labels the figure an estimate and shows how it is worked out.
Gaps are shown as gapsIf a source is unavailable the board says so. A missing feed is never shown as “nothing happening”.

These boards are information displays, not safety services or advice. For warnings and emergencies, rely on your local authorities and official agencies. Preliminary figures, such as new earthquake magnitudes, can be revised. Acta Diurna is not affiliated with any government agency or news organisation.
